Content Summary:

Parents are the primary filter through which their children experience this world. If a parent has experienced loss or trauma that is unresolved, this gets handed down to their children through a variety of ways – such as epigenetic transmission, attachment styles, mirroring. This applies both to personal trauma, and also to vicarious or secondary trauma.

It can be very hard for parents to acknowledge this, often because a whole range of psychological defenses have been built up around the trauma. In this workshop, Louis will explain with case studies how he has helped a range of parents heal their unresolved loss and trauma, and how this had a clear positive knock-on effect for their children. Louis will talk through some of the methods he has found to be most successful with these parents, how to work with defences around parental trauma, and how to frame this work in a shame-reducing way that parents can feel open to healing, and why doing this work can have a positive effect on the world. You will come away with a set of practical and effective tools that you can use directly with parents you work with.

This training is suitable for anyone supporting parents and / or families.
