Louis Weinstock: The Wounded Healer

Loading Events

We are so pleased to be able to offer up this inspiring and vitally important CPD day with Louis which is suitable for both adult and child practitioners.

A tailor needs a torn garment to practice his expertise. Your doctor must have a broken leg to doctor. Your defects are the ways that glory gets manifested. Whoever sees clearly what’s diseased in himself, begins to gallop on the Way. Don’t turn your head. Keep looking at the bandaged place. That’s where the light enters you. And don’t believe for a moment that you’re healing yourself.” (Rumi)

Content Summary:

Carl Jung coined the term ‘wounded healer’ to describe someone who feels compelled to help others because of their own wounds. The idea was based on the Greek myth of Chiron, a centaur who was (unlike the other centaurs) kind and wise and a master of the healing arts but was accidentally shot by a poisoned arrow.

In this workshop, we will explore both the personal and the ‘archetypal’ patterns that can lead people into healing work. We will look at childhood wounds, the strategies children use to manage difficult early life experiences, and how these strategies and beliefs can shape our need to help others. As healers, we can suffer if our healing work is driven by unconscious needs. We risk burning out. Here, we will bring light to these shadowy aspects of our healing work. The more we bring loving awareness to our own ‘wounded healer’, the more we consciously choose with freedom and joy a path of helping others.
