Selective Mutism

Selective mutism is an anxiety-based issue that prevents a child from speaking in certain situations to certain people. They may speak normally at home, but be predominantly or completely mute at school. It can come as a shock to parents to learn their, often highly verbal child is unable to speak in a different setting due to extreme social anxiety.
